White-collar hiring intentions rise in April
The hiring intentions of white-collar employers improved in April, according to the latest Michael Page Employment Index.
Some 35% of companies surveyed planned to increase their headcount in April, up from 29% in March. The survey found that 57% of employers expected staff levels to remain stable and 8% anticipated a decrease.
Employers continue to focus most strongly on full-time hires with most recruitment occurring in front line areas such as sales and account management. There was also demand for workers in operational functions such as purchasing and supply chain.
According to the April survey, 75% of employers predict the white-collar jobs market will experience moderate growth through the second quarter.
