Stable business conditions predicted for fourth quarter

Most employers believe that business conditions will remain stable in the fourth quarter, according to the latest Michael Page Employment Index.

This will complete a year in which sustained jobs growth has been seen across white-collar professional employment markets.

Some 33% of companies surveyed intend to increase their staff numbers in October, mostly on a permanent basis (67%). The majority of companies plan to hire mid-level professionals (39%), followed by juniors (33%).

Most of the companies recruiting new staff in October are focusing on front line positions in areas such as sales and account management (57%). A further 15% are hiring for back office functions like accounting and marketing, whilst 14% are increasing their operational capabilities.

For 70% of employers surveyed, company performance YTD matched expectations. A further 19% reported that their expectations were exceeded.
