Richard Barrett of Ralph Lauren named 2015 Michael Page Retail Executive Award winner
Every year, we meet with the “best of the best” in Australia’s retail sector for the Michael Page Retail Executive Award – we hear about innovation, new initiatives and incredible forward-thinking that drives the sector. This year, as the applications rolled in, we were interested in noting the wider breadth of contenders from a greater variety of industry verticals. Over the last couple of years, we have had a lot of applicants from food and consumables but this year we saw an increase in applicants from fashion and apparel. The reason being that over the last few years, fashion businesses have been working on their strategy and the results are now coming to fruition.
With that in mind, we are pleased to announce Richard Barrett, Senior Director Retail Oceania Ralph Lauren as the winner of the Retail Executive Award for 2015.
Richard Barrett has held senior roles in department stores in both Australia and the United Kingdom. He was responsible for the refurbishment of the David Jones store in Bondi Junction during the construction of the Westfield Centre and has held senior roles at Harrods and WC Penfold. As Senior Director of Retail at Ralph Lauren Oceania, Mr Barrett has executed a number of successful initiatives, all underscored by a big-picture viewpoint and a strong sense of company vision.
The award is testament to Mr Barrett’s strategy for redefining the Ralph Lauren brand in the Australian market. Under his leadership, the iconic label has been repositioning into the luxury space and simultaneously increasing the brand footprint. This has been achieved by refocusing on areas such as supply chain, merchandising and staffing, implementing a sense of synergy between all areas of the business. His focus on end-to-end, customer-centric solutions, including service-led digital marketing and improved product training, has contributed to significant growth for Ralph Lauren in the local market.
This year sees further change in the Ralph Lauren ranks, with the launch of Women’s Polo in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
“I’m still in shock – it is an amazing award,” said Mr Barrett of his win. “It will be sensational to go away with a diverse group of people and see some of the iconic cities in the world. I’m looking forward to experiencing the service proposition of different retailers across the globe on the tour.”
We would like to offer Richard our personal congratulations and wish him the best when he joins the Westfield World Retail Tour, visiting Tokyo, London, Berlin, New York and Amsterdam in May this year.
An additional thank you to all applicants for this year’s award.
