Job Description

You will administer and manage all Unix server systems (Solaris and Linux) and related IT infrastructure delivering high availability, ensuring optimal use of the infrastructure resources by applying industry best practices to meet business needs.

The main functions of the role are to:

  • Ensure all Unix server systems operate optimally and resolve any problems in a timely manner.
  • Drive escalations to conclusion, ensuring that issues are clearly evaluated and resolved, and actions taken is articulated to key stakeholders.
  • Deploy, maintain and support Unix systems in the production, test and development environment.
  • Proactive performance monitoring and tuning of Unix systems.
  • Proactive management of all Unix technologies with consideration to patch management and firmware updates as appropriate.
  • Provide SAN storage administration and architecture including monitoring, capacity planning and adjusting storage requirements.
  • Assist in the development of operational procedures and system policies and documentation to help drive efficiencies and best practice

The Successful Applicant

  • At least 5 years Systems Administration experience on Solaris/Linux technologies in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong Unix Shell scripting skills
  • At least 2 years experience in related technologies such as Storage Area Networks (preferably EMC Clarion Storage Arrays) backup systems (preferably Networker and/or Veritas), networking equipment (preferably Cisco and Lucent) and virtual technology (preferably Ware)
  • Apache web server skills

Knowledge of the following is favorable:

  • Windows Administration Siebel Infrastructure Voice systems, IVR, PABX, voice mail and call management
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning
  • ITIL - ITSM foundations
  • Must be able to work weekends when required and rostered for on-call support after office hours.
  • Police check required.
