Job Description

Key ResponsibilitiesCommercial & Contract Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end commercial oversight of major oil & gas projects, from tender phase through execution and close-out.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage complex EPCM, EPC, and lump-sum contracts.
  • Ensure contract compliance and proactively identify, communicate, and manage commercial and legal risks.
  • Support development of commercial strategies that drive value, minimise exposure, and support successful project outcomes.



Project Support

  • Partner closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, and functional leads to ensure commercial risk is understood and managed.
  • Provide rapid, accurate commercial and legal advice in fast-moving project environments.
  • Lead claim preparation, variation strategy, dispute avoidance, and settlement negotiations where required.
  • Guide project teams on contract administration, obligations, milestones, and performance requirements.



Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Support senior leadership on commercial governance, approvals, and reporting.
  • Represent the organisation in high-stake negotiations and commercial discussions.



Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with internal governance processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of commercial frameworks, templates, and processes.
  • Conduct commercial risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies for new opportunities or emerging issues.



The Successful Applicant

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified lawyer with 10-15 years PQE, preferably with experience in top-tier private practice and/or in-house commercial roles.
  • Strong background in the resources sector, ideally oil & gas (onshore/offshore).
  • Extensive experience with EPCM, EPC, and lump-sum contracting models.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex negotiations and resolve commercial disputes.
  • Proven capability working closely with project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Ability to respond quickly, operate under pressure, and provide clear, commercially-sound advice at pace.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and decision-making skills.
