Job Description

The Financial Accountant will maintain the internal controls and support the preparation of the financial statements and the provision of efficient and effective delivery of financial accounting and related client services. In addition, this role also assist with the maintenance and administration for the Oracle Financial and Procurement applications as well as:

  • Preparing audit working papers and assist the Team Leader Financial Accounting with the planning, coordination and preparation of statutory financial statements and annual reporting requirements to ensure the organisation's compliance with financial legislation
  • Management of compliance of asset management related policies ensuring registrations, transfers, disposals and stock take adjustments are processed accurately and processed in a timely manner for Property, Plant and Equipment.
  • Performing monthly reconciliations of the Fixed Asset Register to the general ledger and investigating, in conjunction with the Asset Custodians, any discrepancies identified.
  • Organisation of rolling periodic stock takes that counts every registered asset at least once in three years. To oversee the planning, conduct, reporting and update of the registers for discrepancies identified during the stock take.
  • Prepare reports, periodic returns and acquittals to external bodies.
  • Manage system administration processes within the Oracle Financials Chart of accounts, including modification of cross validation rules, aliases, and flex field combinations as required in accordance with policies and guidelines to include performing month-end and year-end close processes for Oracle modules, i.e. payables, receivables and general ledger.
  • Assist in the delivery of ad hoc reports and accounting projects generated by the Finance & Business Services Centre.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in a relevant field (typically Commerce, Business or Management) with a major in Accounting and progressing towards a professional accounting qualification
  • Relevant experience in assisting with the preparation of statutory financial statements information for a medium to large organisation, understanding of the International Financial Reporting Standards and proven record of skills and experience in the administration of financial policies and procedures
  • As an intermediate user, relevant experience in Oracle Financials or similar ERP systems with the ability to effectively and efficiently manipulate data and prepare and present reports using MS Excel
  • The ability to plan and organise own work to maximise the use of time, avoid unnecessary effort and meet deadlines
  • The ability to organise and present information, views and concepts in a concise, understandable and interesting format for a variety of audiences, from the organisations internal and external communities
  • The ability to work cooperatively with others to accomplish joint tasks and common objectives
  • Experience managing and focusing on all aspects of customer service to achieve quality outcomes for all parties involved.
