General Manager - Rail Freight
Canberra based member facing role
Highly autonomous and strategic position
About Our Client
The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) is the peak body for the rail sector in Australia and New Zealand. The ARA represents more than 150 member organisations including freight and passenger operators, ports, track owners and managers, suppliers, manufacturers, contractors, consultants and learning institutions. Members include listed and private rail-related companies, government agencies and franchisees.
Meeting the growing freight task is one of the most significant challenges facing governments in both Australia and New Zealand. The domestic freight task in Australia has increased 50% in the 10 years to 2016 and is forecast to grow another 26% by 2026.
Against this backdrop, the ARA is working with governments and industry on behalf of our members and communities to get more freight on to rail, and so improve the efficiency, safety and productivity of Australia's and New Zealand's national freight supply chains.
As GM Rail Freight, your mandate will be to manage the ARA's Rail Freight and Ports Group (RF&PG) and hold key relationships within the sector. You'll engage with and advocate for rail operators, track managers and ports, as well as be the conduit between the ARA And the Freight On Rail Group (FORG). You'll also drive key work programs and events as well as other high profile industry activities.
The Successful Applicant
We are seeking a candidate preferably with a rail, transport or freight supply chain background, or possibly a relavent government background, with a balanced operational and policy perspective who can hold a clear view of the industry and is highly capable of forming strong relationships at differing levels of federal and state governments. You'll be organised, resilient and a proven stakeholder communicator and be available for frequent interstate travel.
What's on Offer
The ARA is a highly enjoyable place to work with a mature and member focused culture. This role offers a candidate a great chance to pull a broad skill set together and work in a cohesive and highly respected industry association.
