This position requires an HR Team Leader for a public sector organisation in Sydney, who will be responsible for managing HR operations, employee relations and supporting with the people agenda strategy. You will also lead a team in the Human Resources department.

Job Description

  • Lead and develop the capability and performance of the HR team (3-4 direct reports)
  • Actively participate in the leadership of the department and organisation.
  • Provide leadership and support to HR staff, ensuring business delivery, leave management, training, and performance reviews.
  • Identify and action coaching and mentoring opportunities.
  • Ensure HR functions are efficient, accurate, and legally compliant, with up-to-date policies.
  • Offer expert advice on complex employee relations and industrial relations matters.
  • Support and conduct performance management and manage grievances and disputes.
  • Assist with agreement preparation, negotiations, and industrial matters.
  • Oversee HR projects including rewards, recognition, workforce planning, change management, recruitment, onboarding, and employee wellbeing.
  • Oversee learning and development programs, ensuring alignment with organisational needs.
  • Act as a business partner, engaging with managers and staff to foster a positive workplace culture.
  • Proactively manage budget and resources, identifying and addressing potential risks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of services and business processes.

The Successful Applicant

A successful HR Team Leader should have:

  • A degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Proven experience as an HR Business Partner or Generalist
  • Knowledge of HR systems and databases
  • Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Team management experience is preferred
