About Our Client
The Anglican Schools Commission (Incorporated) (ASC) was established in 1985, following the passage of a resolution by the Perth Diocesan Synod of the Anglican Church of Australia.
In agreeing to establish the ASC, Synod was giving effect to a concern to provide Anglican families and others with ready access to affordable Christian education in the Anglican tradition. It was recognised that existing independent Anglican schools, while offering excellent education and fine facilities, were beyond the reach of most people. The new, co-educational, low-fee Anglican day schools were to be socio-economically comprehensive, overtly Christian in emphasis and accessible to the disadvantaged and children with disabilities.
Since its establishment, the ASC has founded or acquired fourteen schools: eleven are situated in Western Australia and three are in the Diocese of Wangaratta in north-east Victoria and the Albury border area of New South Wales.
The Internal Auditor will report to the CEO, through the Risk & Compliance Manager and will be the key person to own and deliver the internal audit programme across all schools in the network (14 individual schools), driving ownership and development of best practice. You will work to build relationships across the network to ensure that your purpose is clear, and that the value of the Internal Audit function is understood. On a practical level you will develop an annual internal program for the ASC and each school, taking into consideration both system driven and school-based priorities. You will visit each school, partnering with senior leaders to evaluate the effectiveness of the internal controls and business processes, designed to help school management achieve both operational, financial, compliance, and strategic objectives. Furthermore, you will assist in the preparation of reports to both the Risk & Compliance Committee and the Finance and Audit Committee, and report on risk management issues.
The Successful Applicant
The Internal Auditor will need to take a resilient but fair approach to conversations at all levels. You must be able to work autonomously, be a self-starter and demonstrate you are able to work in an environment with increasing regulation. Previous experience in working within a school or education institution is an advantage but not a necessity. You must though bring relevant tertiary qualifications and a background in Internal Audit, along with highly developed communication skills both written and oral. Given this is a newly created role, you must also be open to the duties of your role developing and evolving over time and you should be open to shaping that.
