As Manager Governance you will lead a team and play an role in the Town of Port Headland vision to become Australia's leading Port Town.

Job Description

As Manager Governance you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the Governance department, ensuring all responsibilities, functions and programs are performed and executed in a professional, efficient and timely manner
  • Oversee the provision of advice on policy, legislative interpretation to Elected Members
  • Ensure Council processes are compliant with the requirements of the Local Government Act 1995, associated Regulations, Standing Orders and guidelines of the Department of Local Government
  • Oversee the delivery of Councils Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework requirements
  • Manage the Local Government Election process and ensure elections meet statutory requirements
  • Oversee Councils Strategic Risk Management Framework in compliance with Regulations 16 & 17 of the Local Government (Audit) Regulations 1996
  • Ongoing compliance with the relevant Work Health & Safety Act 2020 and Regulations 2022, statutory requirements and relevant legislation, WHS IOP 015 Obligations and Responsibilities and WHS Management Plan

The Successful Applicant

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, complimented by applied experience in a Governance, Risk or Governance Management position
  • Outstanding leadership skills, with applied experience managing a substantial team
  • Knowledge of local government legislation, policies, procedures and decision making processes
  • Knowledge of legislative procurement processes
  • Knowledge of risk management systems and processes
