This is a short-term Senior Accountant opportunity supporting a large government organisation through a critical end of year financial period. You will assist the Finance Manager to prepare annual financial statements, audits and strategic financial planning while providing insights to senior stakeholders. This is a temporary 4-6 month role based in North Perth.

Our client is a well-established large government organisation focused on sustainability, operational excellence and delivering high-quality services to the community. They are seeking a highly experience finance professional to join their team during a busy financial year-end period.

Job Description

  • Manage the preparation and coordination of annual financial statements, including audit liaison
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and relevant local government legislation
  • Manage year-end processes including reconciliations, accruals, provisions and balance day adjustments
  • Develop and maintain the long-term strategic financial plan (LTFP)
  • Provide financial analysis, insights, and strategic advice to senior leadership
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and scenario modelling processes
  • Manage treasury activities including investments, cash flow, and banking compliance
  • Support infrastructure asset revaluations and coordinate with external valuation specialists
  • Collaborate across corporate services to provide financial guidance and support

The Successful Applicant

A successful Senior Accountant should have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Proven experience with end-of-year financial close processes within local government (essential)
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g. Business Central/Navision) preferred
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, particularly in financial reporting and compliance
  • Knowledge of Australian accounting standards and regulations
