The Senior Environmental Officer will play a key role in providing expert environmental advice and support within the public sector. Based in Deagon, this contract position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who can assist with the effective management of environmental risks, approvals and compliance obligations to support critical projects.

Job Description

  • Undertake specialist environmental and technical support activities across projects to support compliance with relevant legislative frameworks, including the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
  • Support EPBC Act processes, including preparation, coordination and review of documentation for EPBC referrals, EPBC self-assessment requests, Public Environmental Reports and supporting technical material.
  • Assist with the coordination, completion and submission of two EPBC referrals, ensuring regulatory requirements, assessment pathways and project timeframes are aligned.
  • Review draft environmental permits, licences and approvals, as required.
  • Assist with the establishment and ongoing management of environmental offset contracts, including development of offset management, maintenance, reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Support environmental approvals pathways, including preparation and review of Compliance Management Plans for the treatment and reuse of contaminated materials, including PFAS-affected materials.
  • Review design packages and documentation, including fauna management, water quality, site establishment, erosion and sediment control, and fencing layouts.
  • Review environmental documentation including, but not limited to, Environmental Design Reports, Environmental Management Plans (planning, construction and operational), and specialist technical reports.
  • Assist with Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) ratings assessments, including coordination of evidence, compliance checks and reporting.
  • Coordinate with project teams, specialist consultants and regulatory agencies to ensure environmental requirements, survey needs, mitigation measures and approval timeframes are clearly identified, communicated and integrated into project schedules.
  • Undertake construction site inspections and audits to verify compliance with relevant environmental plans, approvals and requirements.
  • Respond to project environmental enquiries, support compliance activities, and contribute environmental inputs into design development, construction activities, governance papers and project documentation.
  • Identify and manage environmental risks and issues with the potential to impact project delivery, approvals, cost or reputation, and implement practical, solution-focused responses in collaboration with the project team.



The Successful Applicant

A successful Senior Environmental Officer should have:

  • Relevant qualifications in environmental science, environmental management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in environmental management within the public sector or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory requirements in Australia.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate environmental risks.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing environmental management plans.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to upholding environmental compliance
  • Current holder of Class C driver's licence.



  • An Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional (ISAP) is desirable but not essential.
