Our client is a highly successful ASX-listed mining and resources organisation experiencing significant growth as it continues to expand its operations and workforce across Australia. With approximately 150 employees and projected headcount growth over the coming years, the business is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to play a key role in transitioning payroll operations from a partially outsourced model to an internally managed function.

Job Description



Reporting into the Finance leadership team and working closely with HR stakeholders, the Senior Payroll Officer will take ownership of payroll administration and processing, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with all relevant legislative requirements.

This is a part-time position ideally suited to an experienced payroll professional who can operate autonomously and provide expert payroll support across the organisation.

  • Coordinate monthly and ad hoc payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timely payment of all employees.
  • Manage the transition of payroll activities from a partially outsourced arrangement to an internally managed function.
  • Maintain payroll records, employee files and leave balances, ensuring data integrity, accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding activities, including employment documentation, payroll system setup and final pay calculations.
  • Provide support across HR administration activities, including leave management, employee record maintenance and responding to employee queries.
  • Liaise with external payroll providers, accountants and professional advisors as required.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Australian payroll legislation, taxation requirements, superannuation obligations, awards and employment agreements.
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations, reporting and audit requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and efficiencies as the organisation continues to grow.
  • Support finance and HR teams with payroll-related projects and initiatives.

The Successful Applicant

  • Proven experience in a Senior Payroll Officer, Payroll Specialist or similar position.
  • Strong end-to-end payroll processing knowledge within an Australian environment.
  • Experience managing payroll for a workforce of similar size and complexity.
  • Sound understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and employment obligations.
  • Experience working with Employment Hero and/or transitioning payroll functions in-house will be highly regarded.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with finance and HR teams.
  • High levels of integrity and discretion when handling confidential employee information.
