Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Fund Accountant to join a growing investment management or funds management business based in Melbourne. This role will be responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of fund accounting, financial reporting, unit pricing and investor reporting across a portfolio of investment funds.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal investment, finance, operations and compliance teams, as well as external administrators, auditors, custodians and tax advisers. The role is suited to a technically strong accountant with experience in funds management, investment administration or financial services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual fund accounting and financial reporting.
  • Review Net Asset Value (NAV) calculations, unit pricing and fund reconciliations.
  • Maintain general ledgers and ensure accurate accounting for investment transactions, income, expenses and distributions.
  • Prepare and review investor distributions, capital movements and related calculations.
  • Coordinate annual financial statement preparation and support external audit processes.
  • Assist with tax reporting, BAS, GST and other statutory reporting requirements in conjunction with external tax advisers.
  • Perform cash, investment, custodian and bank reconciliations.
  • Review work completed by fund administrators and investigate pricing or accounting discrepancies.
  • Monitor fund expenses, management fees, performance fees and other fund-level charges.
  • Support investor reporting and respond to finance-related investor queries.
  • Assist with regulatory and compliance reporting where required.
  • Support the onboarding of new funds, investment vehicles and structures.
  • Contribute to process improvements, system enhancements and automation initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior fund accounting team members.
  • Maintain strong relationships with auditors, administrators, custodians, tax advisers and other external service providers.



Skills and Experience

  • Approximately 4-7+ years' accounting experience, ideally within funds management, investment management, superannuation, private equity, property funds, asset management or financial services.
  • Previous fund accounting, unit pricing or investment accounting experience highly regarded.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, reconciliations and accounting principles.
  • Experience working with managed investment schemes, trusts, investment funds or similar structures.
  • Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and relevant financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with fund administration or investment accounting systems is advantageous.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines within a reporting-driven environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Senior Fund Accountant should have:

  • A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualifications such as CA or CPA are preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience in fund accounting or a similar role within the banking and financial services industry.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
