As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the entire financial accounting function while managing a small but capable finance team. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, providing commercial insights to the Managing Director, and maintaining healthy financial controls across a high-volume transactional environment.This is a highly visible role requiring strong technical capability, and attention to detail.

About Our Client

Our client is a successful, family-owned national group of companies operating in the transport and logistics industries. They are seeking an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller to lead and take full responsibility for the Group's finance function.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a key leadership position responsible for the end-to-end financial accounting operations of the business; this opportunity is in Clayton and will be 5-days on-site.

Job Description

  • Oversee and manage the full financial accounting function across multiple entities including overseeing and management of the Group's HR and Payroll functions.
  • Lead and mentor a team of two finance professionals, including back-up coverage when required.
  • Manage month-end and year-end reporting processes.
  • Attend to and or oversee periodical and some year-end statutory compliance obligations including ATO, SRO / Worker's compensation (Victoria, NSW, QLD and WA) etc.
  • Coordinate external statutory reporting and audit requirements.
  • Deliver budgeting, forecasting and actual versus budget analysis as well as the development and management of intercompany and inter-entity transactions and processes.
  • Manage cash flow, financial controls, and balance sheet integrity.
  • Manage intercompany accounting, group reporting requirements etc.
  • Manage and account for various property transactions and set-ups in respect of freehold and leasehold properties.
  • Work in conjunction and in collaboration with the Group's receivables and IT departments as well as external accountants.
  • Partner closely with the Managing Director.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Financial Controller will be able to demonstrate:

  • CA or CPA qualification.
  • Approximately 10 to 15 years' experience in Financial Controller or senior finance leadership positions.
  • Experience managing an end-to-end financial accounting function within a multi-entity national environment.
  • Strong financial reporting, budgeting, internal audit, accounting expertise.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Confidence to explain the "why" behind the numbers and provide insights about processes and accounting recommendations in a very dynamic and real time accounting environment.
  • An understanding of the dynamics of a family-owned business environment.
