We are looking for a skilled Technical Writer to join our clients team in Alderley. This temporary role involves creating and maintaining clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation for the aerospace / defence tech industry.
  • Brisbane based candidates only. 3/2 hybrid environment
  • 12 month initial contract

Our client is a Brisbane-based aerospace and defence tech company that manufactures systems and solutions across Australia and the APAC region.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop paper-based and electronic publication products for all levels of operation, maintenance, and training for UAS systems, including theory of operations, flight and user manuals, testing and troubleshooting procedures, illustrated parts breakdowns, removal and installation procedures, and training guides.
  • Develop draft illustrations and artwork mark-ups.
  • Update publication elements based on internal/external reviews, source data changes, equipment modifications, and customer improvement requests, and resolve source data gaps and inconsistencies with originators.
  • Conduct peer reviews of completed publication elements for overall technical accuracy and customer format standards/specifications. Support customer verification reviews and take corrective action based on outcomes.
  • Ensure technical data and illustrations are developed and maintained in accordance with applicable standards (e.g., S1000D, customer specifications, internal style guides).

The Successful Applicant

Essential:

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret aerospace systems and associated technical information to develop high‑quality, compliant technical publications and illustrations.
  • Proven experience creating clear, accurate technical illustrations (e.g., line drawings, schematics, exploded views, workflows) for complex systems, ideally within aerospace or a comparable technical domain.
  • Experience with authoring/publishing systems (e.g., Automated Publishing System) and structured authoring environments.
  • Experience developing and maintaining document-based and Integrated Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) publication data sets, including associated graphics.
  • Demonstrated working experience with S1000D specifications, including the development, structuring, and maintenance of data modules and associated publication data sets.
  • Skill and ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyse data; summarize findings; and develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the department level.
  • Knowledge of processes and tools to maintain, archive, and retrieve digital files, including both documents and illustration assets.
  • Ability to construct and provide reports and presentation material (including visuals) as needed for assigned projects.
  • Knowledge of research tools (e.g., search engines, library databases), methods (e.g., search parameters), and appropriate resources (e.g., external experts) to gather needed data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while meeting schedule commitments.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Holds a current Australian Security Clearance to Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1).
  • Ability to work accurately and unsupervised, prioritise workload, and coordinate internal/external resources as required.
  • Experience with XML or SGML.
  • Experience with technical illustration and graphics tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, CAD-based illustration tools, 3D modelling or visualisation software).
