Our client is a well-established organisation providing integrated logistics, materials management and operational support services to customers across Australia's energy, resources and industrial sectors. The business operates a strategically located Perth hub and supports complex supply chain and operational requirements through a combination of transport, warehousing, logistics and project services. Continuing a period of growth, this is a great time to join the business and be the first in house commercial leader and they transition the process to in house the function.

Job Description

Historically, the organisation has outsourced its legal and contract management activities to an external law firm. As the business continues to grow, it has identified the need for an experienced Commercial Contracts Leader to bring this capability in-house, providing commercial support across contract negotiations, tender reviews, client agreements, supplier arrangements, and bid evaluations.

  • Lead contract negotiations for customer, supplier and service agreements.
  • Manage lease negotiations and ongoing contractual obligations.
  • Review, interpret and advise on commercial terms, risks and liabilities across a broad range of agreements.
  • Oversee contractual aspects of tender submissions, bid responses and proposal reviews.
  • Support bid evaluation processes from a contractual and commercial perspective.
  • Manage contract variations, extensions, renewals and amendments.
  • Review and administer pricing adjustments, including customer and supplier price rises and reductions.
  • Develop and implement contract management frameworks, templates, governance processes and controls.
  • Act as the key liaison with external legal advisers when specialist legal support is required.
  • Provide commercial advice to leadership on risk management, contractual compliance and dispute resolution matters.
  • Build internal capability and educate stakeholders on contractual obligations and commercial best practice.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will have the skills and confidence to establish and shape a newly created function which will transition in house from a current outsourced firm.

  • You will ideally be qualified in commercial contract law and have spent time in legal practice along with experience in the commercial sector.
  • You will have post-graduate legal experience or equivalent commercial contracts experience.
  • Strong contract drafting, review and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing client and supplier agreements in industrial, logistics, resources, infrastructure, engineering or related sectors.
  • Experience supporting tender processes, leasing agreements, negotiating T&C's, commercial bids and large-scale service agreements.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence senior leaders.
  • You will be comfortable being the in house contact for a range of legal and commercial activities while having the support of the head office and the external firm.
