Job Description

The Specialist will be responsible for delivering the following:

  • Engage with business, finance, regulatory, technology and data stakeholders to understand objectives, decision needs, pain points, data sources, controls and requirements for cost modelling and reporting.
  • Assess and document current data models, calculation logic, data flows, dependencies, assumptions, controls and reporting processes, including their alignment with regulatory commitments to the Motor Accident Insurance Commission.
  • Profile, clean, transform and integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources, resolving quality issues and establishing repeatable validation and reconciliation controls.
  • Redesign and simplify cost models, data structures and analytical workflows using fit-for-purpose data management, statistical and cloud technologies, while preserving transparency, traceability and business meaning.
  • Automate data ingestion, transformation, modelling, quality assurance and reporting activities to reduce manual effort, improve timeliness and minimise operational risk.
  • Monitor solution performance and data quality, identify continuous improvement opportunities and balance customer, commercial, operational, strategic, risk and regulatory considerations in recommendations.



The Successful Applicant

Key skill sets

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving capability, including statistics, model design, validation, optimisation and the ability to challenge and simplify complex approaches.
  • Demonstrated capability in data modelling, data engineering and database concepts, including data pipelines, transformation, integration, quality management and metadata.
  • Experience selecting and applying fit-for-purpose modern data platforms, cloud services, workflow automation and business intelligence tools, such as Microsoft Azure, SQL Server and Power BI or comparable technologies.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement, requirements elicitation and facilitation skills, with the ability to build trust, influence senior stakeholders and resolve competing priorities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, visualisation and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and analytical trade-offs clearly to non-technical audiences.

Mandatory requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in data science, computer science, analytics, econometrics or a closely related quantitative discipline, or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience delivering data science, advanced analytics, data modelling, data engineering or decision-support solutions in complex organisational environments.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing existing models and processes, translating stakeholder needs into technical requirements, and designing, testing, documenting and implementing simplified, controlled and maintainable solutions.
