A part-time (3 days per-week) opportunity has arisen for an experienced finance leader to join a purpose-driven consulting organisation as Director Finance & Governance. Reporting directly to the CEO, this newly designed role combines financial stewardship, governance, risk management and commercial oversight during a significant phase of organisational transformation and growth.

Our client is a Melbourne-based for-purpose consultancy. The organisation is classified by the ACNC as a medium charity, combining a strong purpose-driven mandate with a commercially focused consulting model, and is currently executing a refreshed growth strategy focused on some specific key programs.

Job Description

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director Finance & Governance will provide strategic leadership across finance, governance, risk and commercial operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and organisational performance reporting.
  • Provide financial modelling, scenario analysis and strategic insights to support decision-making.
  • Develop board-level reporting, governance papers and executive recommendations.
  • Coordinate governance activities, board administration and annual compliance requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance enterprise risk management frameworks, insurance programs and business continuity planning.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, contractual and ACNC obligations.
  • Strengthen commercial governance, contract management processes and organisational controls.
  • Oversee outsourced finance, payroll and bookkeeping providers whilst assessing the future operating model.
  • Partner closely with senior stakeholders to support growth, commercial decision-making and governance maturity.



This is a highly visible leadership position offering broad organisational influence across finance, governance, risk and strategic operations.

The Successful Applicant

To be successful in this position, you will be an experienced finance executive with strong governance and commercial capabilities, ideally gained within a consulting, professional services, specialised SME or purpose-led environment.

You will bring:

  • CA or CPA qualification.
  • Demonstrated senior finance leadership experience.
  • Strong corporate governance and board reporting expertise.
  • Experience across risk management, compliance and organisational assurance.
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to operate strategically and hands-on.
  • Exceptional written communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience supporting CEOs, Boards and senior leadership teams.
  • Exposure to outsourced finance models and contemporary financial systems.



Candidates with experience in social enterprise, ESG-focused organisations, consulting or professional services environments will be highly regarded.
