We are seeking an experienced detail-oriented Financial Accountant (Assets) to join a collaborative finance team on a 4-month temporary contract with strong potential for permanency. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a critical asset portfolio, focusing on capitalisation, reconciliations and ensuring compliance within a structured local government environment.

Job Description

  • Manage the capitalisation of assets in accordance with accounting standards and council policies
  • Perform regular asset reconciliations and ensure accuracy of the asset register
  • Assist with month-end and year-end reporting related to fixed assets
  • Support audit processes and respond to audit queries regarding asset accounting
  • Manage and monitor Work in Progress (WIP) balances to ensure timely capitalisation of completed projects and accurate financial reporting
  • Maintain and update asset records within Technology One (or similar ERP systems)
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure correct asset classification and reporting
  • Identify and implement process improvements within asset management practices

The Successful Applicant

A successful Financial Accountant (Assets) should have:

  • A tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of proven experience in asset accounting, including capitalisation and reconciliations.
  • Ideally background in local government.
  • Experience using Technology One or similar financial systems.
  • Strong knowledge of public sector accounting standards and asset management practices (highly desirable).
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
