Job Description

As a Payroll Assistant, you'll play a key role in ensuring accurate, timely and efficient payroll processing across the business. This position is responsible for resolving payroll enquiries, maintaining payroll records and supporting the wider payroll function to achieve departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process accurate and timely end-to-end payroll across multiple Australian states.
  • Manage payroll inboxes, tickets and employee enquiries, ensuring prompt resolution.
  • Set up new starters, process terminations and maintain payroll records.
  • Configure payroll allowances, deductions and bonus payments in accordance with company policies.
  • Partner with HR, Finance and operational stakeholders on payroll matters and compliance requirements.
  • Support month-end reporting activities and payroll analysis.
  • Ensure payroll processes comply with relevant legislation, awards and enterprise agreements.

The Successful Applicant

  • Minimum 2 years' payroll experience, ideally within a retail or high-volume environment.
  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, taxation requirements, awards and enterprise agreements.
  • Experience processing end-to-end payroll including reporting, new starters, terminations, allowances, deductions and bonus payments.
  • Ability to identify payroll risks and implement proactive solutions.
  • Exposure to payroll systems such as SAP and workforce management platforms including Kronos (UKG) is highly regarded.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage high volumes of enquiries and competing deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
