We are seeking a hands-on Payroll Manager to join a well-established organisation based in North Lakes. This is an initial 3-month contract with strong potential to be extended or transition into a permanent position for the right candidate. Working in a hybrid environment, you will take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for approximately 900 employees while supporting one direct report

Due to a period of growth and business transformation, they are seeking an experienced Temporary Payroll Manager to lead their payroll function and ensure the seamless delivery of payroll services to approximately 900 employees.

Job Description

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for:

  • Managing the end-to-end payroll process for approximately 900 employees
  • Leading, coaching and supporting one direct report
  • Ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time across weekly and fortnightly cycles
  • Maintaining compliance with relevant legislation, awards, EBAs and company policies
  • Managing payroll reconciliations, reporting and month-end requirements
  • Handling complex payroll queries and escalations
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to drive efficiency and accuracy
  • Partnering with HR, Finance and operational stakeholders across the business
  • Supporting audits, compliance reviews and payroll projects as required

The Successful Applicant

The successful Payroll Manager should have:

  • Proven experience in a Payroll Manager, Payroll Team Leader or Senior Payroll position
  • Strong end-to-end payroll processing experience within a medium to large organisation
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring payroll staff
  • Excellent knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, superannuation and taxation requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience with payroll system implementations, upgrades or process improvement projects will be highly regarded
