The Senior Accountant role plays a critical leadership position in delivering accurate financial reporting, including the preparation of annual financial statements and audit coordination. You will also oversee a team while ensuring compliance, improving processes, and supporting broader financial strategy. This is an initial 5 months temporary role with the potential of permanency following the initial contract.

Job Description

  • Lead the preparation and consolidation of annual financial statements and statutory reports
  • Manage the end-to-end audit process and liaise with external auditors
  • Supervise and mentor a team of finance officers and senior accounting staff
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, legislative requirements, and internal policies
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning activities
  • Provide financial insights and advice to internal stakeholders and leadership teams
  • Drive improvements in financial systems, processes, and reporting frameworks
  • Oversee cash flow, financial controls, and asset management processes

The Successful Applicant

A successful Senior Accountant should have:

  • A degree or professional qualification in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of public sector financial regulations and reporting standards.
  • Local Government experience essential
  • Experience using ERP systems, ideally TechnologyOne
  • Candidates with 5+ years of LG experience stepping up from Financial Accountant level will be considered
