Leadership insights from Erica Berchtold
The most important quality of an effective leader is “learning the difference between leadership and management” says Erica Berchtold, winner of the Michael Page Retail Executive Award.
Retail in Australia is continually evolving, and with multi-channel posing the biggest influence, retail leaders need to adapt to suit the developments of the Australian consumer. Moreover, employee loyalty is not what it used to be, in fact, it’s been declining for several years.
So what can retail leaders do to retain top retail performers? Erica believes leaders should:
  1. Be fair
  2. Create an environment where people can make mistakes
  3. Be available
  4. Empower people
